Harriet Tubman was an American patriot and a hero to many. Like Lincoln she was for the people and therefore would be my choice to replace him as the face on the US penny.
Harriet was born into slavery on a plantation but that did not determine what her future would be. She was predestined for more. She worked in the fields as a teenager like many other enslaved men and women during that time. It was with the death of her owner when she took a leap of faith and decided her own destiny. She escaped captivity and became apart of the Underground Railroad. As a free woman she made the choice to return time and time again risking that freedom to secure the freedom of others. She was an abolitionist and joined the union holding different roles. She was a cook, a nurse, a scout and spy. She would go behind enemy lines on scouting missions bringing back valuable information for the advancement of the Union army. She became the first woman to command an armed raid. Like Lincoln she was there doing her part. As a result many men, women and children were freed. Some of whom were recruited by Harriet to join in the fight.
The war ended but her journey continued into activism and humanitarianism. Her home was a safe haven for many freed slaves. She opened a home for the aged and was active in the suffrage movement. She had served her country and once again her country had failed her. Despite her military service she was denied her pension and so, struggled financially. Harriet still continued being an activist and humanitarian. We should be honored to have her be the face on our penny.

I agree with this essay that harriet tubman should be on the penny rather than president lincoln. We dont have any females on any forms of american money, and I think its time we start. I liked how this person included all of her accomplishments in great detail.
I did not like this one. It mostly quoted facts, which I believe a lot of reasearch was involved, however, I didn't get a sense as to why this person really felt the way they did.
Its true, we need to get some more female recognition in this country in my opinion.Although lincoln did have many of the same beliefs as tubman, she seemed to get much more done on the subject, so good choice. very fluent details too.
I would definately agree that Harriet Tubman is deserving enough to recieve such an honor, but your essay seemed like more of a biography than a persuasive essay. Incorporate more of an argumentative position.
I can tell the writer has alot of passion for this figure, through the careful details she cites. Other than some grammar and spelling issues it's a very good arguement.
Very good choice for the penny. Not only does it give women recognition, but also it's a symbol of how far our country has progressed. It's also fun to note how you connected Harriet Tubman with Lincoln, as they did have similar views and a need for doing what's right in society. Your article also makes one think about how far we've progressed since the time of Harriet Tubman, and the way you lay all the information out about her is simple, yet very informative; and it's also easy to see the point you're making. The only recommendation i really have is if this had a more personal outlook at why you felt Tubman should have been on the penny, this seems to be mainly facts, which might not get people hooked on it as opposed to having more of your personal input.
I like this essay. It was well written and I do agree that it is time to get a female recognized here. However, this essay doesn't feel personal. I feel like it's a research essay, rather than how the writer really feels.
Although this essay quoted alot of facts, I thought it was a good idea to add in a little history about Harriet Tubman. This allowed the reader to understand why the writer thought Harriet Tubman was a great choice.
I think that Harriet Tubman would make a good choice but the essay was borning, if i had to decide weather or not she should be on the penny from this essay only i wouldnt really want to change it or even care... I think it need less facts and more of what the author really felt
Wow! Great choice. Your information on Harriet's accomplishments were interesting. Many things I didn't know about her.(first woman to command an armedraid),(denied her pension). She truely deserves her picture to be on the faces of the penny and much much more.
