Whoever ends the war!

Since the beginning of the nineteenth century, Abraham Lincoln, sixteenth president of the United States, has been the symbol of the penny. Since that time, many changes and additions to the United States’ currency have been made in both acts of convenience and honor of past presidents and other leading figures of our country. The idea of changing Lincoln’s place in America’s currency and giving another past president the position of the penny has been brought up due to the recent turn of the century. The question of whose face should be engraved into this one cent coin has been raised, and, in my opinion, such an important role should go to the president who has made a big impact on the country. Since the recent war in the Middle East is coming to a close soon, I think that the man who is responsible for the ending of the war that has taxed our country of resources and armies would be perfect for the symbol of our currency. The role should be given as a reward to the man who wins the recent election. Whoever wins this election will have to deal with the final outcome of the war on terrorism that has been continuing on for the last seven years. The next president, whether Obama or McCain, will have the opportunity to right the mistakes of the previous president. The importance of this outcome will have to be decided by the next president, who acts for his country in its most desperate hour. The man who wins the right to release our country from this tragic war should be rewarded with the honor of being immortalized and remembered through our nation’s currency.

even though i would love to side with your essay. i totally disagree. unfortunatley the penny is not some grammy award. the penny is something that has been around for many years, and to use it as a medal to the next president, seems very insulting. even though there needs to be change on the copper coin, i feel there it should be changed for the right reasons. And if you didnt already know McCain plans on fighting until america wins...whereas obama plans on retrieving the troops immediatly after his reign as president. so i guess obamba wins automatically.

I like this essay but it needs more substance. Why does McCain deserve to be on the penny if he wins? Why does Obama? What have they accomplished that gives them that right? What experience do they have backed up behind them like Lincoln does?

Though i can understand why you wrote something about wanting one of the future presidents to end the war, i think it's been established through the media that Obama wants to pull out of the middle east, while McCain wants to stick it out, though I'm not certain. That being set aside for a moment; I like the concept of putting someone who makes a considerable impact on the penny, and who else that someone who'll get our troops back on safe soil, as well as someone who'll put money back into the pockets of U.S. citizens. I like how compared putting a past president on the penny to a recent one because that's the idea of doing this...to bring about change for our modern day and age. It's easy your standpoint on things upon reading this, which is always a good thing. my only question is...what if the new president doesn't correct past mistakes?

This is a great idea. It would be a huge reward to truly be remembered in history for ending the war.

you wrote a great essay but, i dont think i can agree on the reason why one of those two should be on the penny. Mcain is a clone of bush so even if he does win the election he wont stop the war and would make a very ugly coin. Obama.....well yeah he would fit well on a penny given the thought that if he does win he will change history as we know it,though i wouldnt want to give a guy who is barely a president so much recognition so fast. But maybe some time in the future
