I think that if the penny were to be changed, a good symbol would be, the Earth. Now a days we focus on the fact that we all need to be more efficient in everything we do, so I believe that putting the earth on it would remind everyone that we all need to take part in things, in order to keep the earth clean for all of us. We all have grown up seeing the penny with President Lincoln’s head on it but if we are going to change it, why not put on something that unites us. The earth is something that we all share no matter what religion, race, or ethnicity we are, we live on it, and we might as well be able to show our gratitude by placing it on something that we all most likely see everyday.
Although many people believe that they should just do away with the whole idea of the penny but I believe that we shouldn’t get rid of something that we all have known for so long. The penny may be the smallest amount of currency we have but I think if it was to be changed it could signify that the smallest amount of effort put into our world and country could make the biggest difference for all of us.
Most people today just know by shape or color, which amount is which, but I know when the new U.S. quarters came out I was excited to see which state was going to be on which one. It kind of gave some fun and knowledge to finding the quarters and seeing what each state had to offer. It was a mini way of learning something about each state but yet it was still worth something in the end so it wasn’t just a pointless thing that people were trying to show everyone. I think if they could maybe do the same thing with the pennies that people wouldn’t be so careless and not want to keep them.

I would have to agree with the writer of this essay. It would be a nice reminder of what were all struggling to preserve. Most people who see the earth on the penny might be encouraged to keep up the recycling or buying low emmission vehicles. Such a small, low valued coin can probably make a bigger difference than we think
I love your idea of something that unites all of us.. I think it would be very difficult for anyone to argue with you on this because your absolutely right, we do all live here and who doesn't want the place that they live in to be clean and healthy? Maybe someone with a weak argument.
I do the like paper, its well written and there are some good points. im afraid my personal opinion is really getting in the way of my focus on this one. Im not sure if we are talking about a currency for the whole world, or just for the US. As for the penny using an image that supports the US being unified, i would have to disagree. Unfortunately alot of the US still is not unified, look at all the hate crimes and the fights and protests about our own government.
I think we would need more than a penny to help out unifying the USA once again.
Although this essay has valid points, the penny is a US coin, and the Earth is something the entire world should be worrying about, not just our country.
Another great idea. Well written. Don't know if I really agreet with having the earth on the penny though.
I like your statement of, " The earth is something we all share no matter what religion, race, or ethnicity we are..." So yes the idea to remind us of how we should take care of our home is a vital one!
